SUMMARY:The Secret Garden - an Aerial Theatre Show
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we present our newest studio-wide aerial theatrical production\, “The Secret Garden” based on the 1911 novel by Frances Hodgeson Burnett. We will be taking this story airborne\, using aerial arts\, high flying acrobatics\, contortion\, and dance. Sora’s Aerial Theater productions have become an amazing and fun tradition for everyone in the studio and for the community.\n\nThe story of The Secret Garden begins when Miss Mary\, quite contrary\, arrives at Misselthwaite Manor in England all the way from India having lost her parents\, leaving her rich\, extravagant life behind. Sour-faced little Mary finds herself deposited in a gloomy manor full of secrets and moorland fog.\n\nWith no one to boss around and an alarming shortage of servants to obey her every whim\, Mary does what any reasonable child would do: she sulks magnificently. During her time sulking\, Mary stumbles upon a locked garden—overgrown\, forgotten\, and possibly enchanted. With the help of Dickon\, a boy in tune with charming the animals at the moor\, Mary’s mysteriously bedridden cousin Colin\, a robin with attitude\, and a key to unlock it all\, the garden begins to coax the hearts around it back to life.\n\nIn this tale\, flowers bloom in time with friendships\, birds dance through sapphire skies\, and tantrums are replaced by companionship. The Secret Garden is a charming and whimsical voyage through healing\, hope\, and the power of nature—with a big dash of magic. \n\nCome watch our professionals and students of all ages hit the stage this spring to present this coming of age story that all audiences of all generations will enjoy. A familiarity with beats will be helpful\, but is not required. \n\n\n\nSling II – Fierce Flow – May 14th\, 7:30pm-9pm  \n\n\n\nFor those students already familiar with beats and ankle drops\, take this workshop to push your dynamic sequencing skills to the next level. Learn more complex beat styles and how to link big drops into smooth\, continuous movement. All power\, no plop! DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to welcome Mykelle Walton to Sora in March for two great Lyra workshops! 🤩🎪 \n\n\n\n✨Flair for Hoop✨March 17th\, 11am-12pm\, $50 \n\n\n\nOne of the most important factors in spinning aerial is how to control it. In this 60 minute workshop you will learn different types of spins and how to center your spin in yourself and with your apparatus. We will go through the flair progression and different ways to start and control your spin\, and get a detailed look at using spin to lift your body into the air with flairs. \n\n\n\nPrerequisites: Students must have a one arm hold for 20 seconds and be comfortable spinning for up to an hour (with breaks of course). INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED \n\n\n\n✨Finding the Centre✨March 17th\, 12:15pm-1:45pm\, $65 \n\n\n\nThis 90 minute workshop will go beyond the beginning poses of hoop and transition into thinking about how we balance our bodies within the hoop itself. We will be introduced to concepts such as falling to rise\, centre of mass\, and finding balance in kinesthetic ways. Exploration of twisty combinations is an option in this workshop. \n\n\n\nPrerequisites: Must be able to invert from hang into double knee hang (hocks hang) on the hoop. BEGINNER / INTERMEDIATE \n\n\n\n✨About Mykelle: \n\n\n\nMykelle is a circus artist with a background in high level gymnastics and modern dance. She uses movement arts to share a narrative experience. Creatively\, her work follows two distinct lines: (1) producing one-of-a-kind shows that use devised theatre and idea-centered thinking to create circus events and (2) She is infinitely curious about pushing the physical boundaries of what the human body can do – combining it with the strength\, grace\, and artistry of contemporary aerial arts to create complex work. \n\n\n\nThis work draws implicit parallels between the human experience\, philosophy\, and physics while layering ideals of the emotional journey\, critical theory and aerodynamics. \n\n\n\nMykelle currently resides in the forests of Massachusetts with her wife and their two cats.

Join Sebastian for a deep dive into technique\, sequences\, and tricks. We’ll also have fun with some Sebastian-original straps choreography and movement quality. DESCRIPTION:Would your child’s sport or hobby benefit from a focused flexibility training practice?\nThis summer we are offering a special Flexibility Intensive designed specifically for gymnastics\, cheer\, dance\, & aerial students.\nThese sports are very demanding on the body and require both a high level of strength and a high level of flexibility to perform each one at its peak level. We are here to fill in the gap and to give each child the Flexibility Training techniques that will give them a head start for their upcoming fall season.\n\n\nBuilt for aerial\, gymnastics\, cheer & dance students\nWe meet 3x per week for 2 weeks\nMon/Tues/Thurs @11am-12noon July 17th – 27th\n$120 for the intensive\nages 10-17 or Instructor Approval\n\n\nThis training will be led by the owner of Sora Aerial Arts\, Jessica Johnson.\n\nJessica has been a lifelong athlete\, training in competitive sports from a young age. Upon discovering aerial arts\, it was her mission from the start to learn how to become more flexible. Since 2011 she has traveled the world training and learning from the experts in the field of both Flexibility & Contortion Training.\n\nShe now teaches her own flexibility training method that has shown to be very effective with her aerial students. She loves to spread this knowledge of how to train Flexibility properly without compromising the strength of the athlete.

Students will also get the opportunity to train in supplementary areas such as Flexibility Training\, Handbalance\, Acro Dance\, & Creative Aerial Approach. Traincation will be a time for students to focus on their own training\, learn brand new skills\, and level up in a focused and professional training environment. The training will be held at @soraaerialarts in the brand new state of the art facility with 28 foot ceilings. The space is fully air conditioned and located in Lexington\, KY. The training is July 7-10 from 10am-6pm each day.
